Dr. Joshua Cole is pleased to be assisting at the 2016 National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships next week at the University of Colorado Boulder. Given his experience in sports medicine, Dr. Cole will be serving as an emergency medical response doctor at this year's championship event, providing him with an opportunity to work with some of the nation's top athletes in the sport.
A student of Taekwondo himself, Dr. Cole works locally with two time world champion and Olympian Daba Modibo Keit. "The high level of care I received from Dr. Cole allowed me to heal very fast and get back to competing.more quickly, and that's what I like to do," shared Keita. Dr. Cole also serves as an advisor to Team Power Kix led by Arlene Limas, a member of the Taekwondo Hall of Fame and the first American to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport. Dr. Cole regularly educates team members on ways to accelerate recovery after strenuous workouts and helps identify and lessen risks for overuse injuries. He also provides concussion awareness training. “My goal is to help patients realize their maximum potential by doing what I can to make sure their hard work isn’t negated by injuries,” explains Dr. Cole.
Originally drawn to sports medicine by a lifelong interest in soccer, Dr. Cole is currently pursuing certification as a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (DACBSP), the highest distinction in chiropractic sports medicine. He will be sharing some of his experiences at the National Collegiate Taekwondo Championships in a future post.
